Cadillac Aims to Create a Hypercar

Cadillac has a history of creating remarkable concept cars, such as the 2002 Cien with a powerful V-12 engine. Though this mid-engine masterpiece never made it to production, GM’s luxury brand is not giving up on the idea of a supercar or even a hypercar. In fact, GM’s design boss, Michael Simcoe, expressed interest in creating a flagship performance model in an interview with Australian magazine Carsales. While not giving away too many details, Simcoe stated that Cadillac could build a hypercar and that the model may not necessarily be fully electric. With the brand’s racing ambitions and Formula 1 plans with Andretti, a high-performance Cadillac seems like a natural progression.

The idea of keeping internal combustion engines (ICE) alive for a potential hypercar is supported by Cadillac’s V-Series.R race car, which utilizes a V-8 engine. Additionally, the brand’s Formula 1 aspirations with Andretti hint at a V-6 powertrain. While only the CT4, CT5, and Celestiq are available in the US, Cadillac continues to offer the CT6 in China, where sedans remain popular. GM’s Buick division also sells traditional body style sedans like the LaCrosse, Regal, and Verano, though these models are not offered in the US market.
