Chinese man被逮捕,涉嫌运行“有史以来最大”的恶意软件网络

US officials have announced the dismantling of a global network of 19 million infected computers that were being used for cybercrimes such as fraud, identity theft, and child exploitation. The mastermind behind this network, Yunhe Wang, was arrested for running the botnet known as “911 S5”. This botnet had infected IP addresses in over 190 countries and had been generating millions of dollars for cybercriminals who paid for access to the network.

Wang is alleged to have made $99 million through his scheme, using the illicit gains to buy luxury cars and real estate in various countries. He spread his malware through VPN programs and pay-per-install services that bundled it with other software files, including pirated versions of licensed software. The US Department of Justice seized assets valued at approximately $30 million and identified additional property worth $30 million as part of the operation, which involved law enforcement partners from around the globe.

Attorney General Merrick B Garland stated that the operation targeted a botnet that facilitated cyber-attacks, fraud, child exploitation, harassment, bomb threats, and export violations. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation in fighting cybercriminals and ensuring accountability. FBI Director Christopher Wray called the dismantled network “likely the world’s largest botnet ever” and reiterated the FBI’s commitment to protecting American businesses and people from cyber threats.

Wang has been charged with conspiracy to commit computer fraud, substantive computer fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum penalty of 65 years in prison. The case highlights the global nature of cybercrime and the need for coordinated efforts to track down and prosecute those responsible for such malicious activities. It also serves as a warning to others involved in similar schemes that they will be held accountable for their actions.

The dismantling of this massive botnet is a significant victory in the fight against cybercrime and a demonstration of the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks operating in cyberspace. The operation sends a strong message to cybercriminals that their activities will not go unpunished, and that the long arm of the law will reach even the darkest corners of the dark web. It also underscores the importance of cybersecurity measures for individuals and organizations to protect themselves from falling victim to such schemes.

As technology continues to advance and cyber threats evolve, the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity experts becomes even more crucial in addressing and preventing cybercrimes. The successful takedown of the 911 S5 botnet serves as a reminder of the dedication and determination of law enforcement officials to bring cybercriminals to justice and protect the public from the harmful consequences of their actions. It also serves as a call to action for individuals and businesses to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to safeguard their digital assets from cyber threats.
