This year, Hyundai is bringing four Ioniq 5 Ns to the Pike Peak hill climb. Two of these vehicles will be almost showroom stock, while the other two will be upgraded with hopes of capturing the modified electric SUV/Crossover record. The modified models, known as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Spec, feature a more aggressive aero kit, larger spoiler, forged wheels, Yokohama slicks, and upgraded brakes and suspension. These models also have more power, with an additional 37 horsepower giving them a total of 678 hp in full overboost mode. The components used in the TA Spec are still production items found in the standard Ioniq 5 N, sparking speculation about a possible production version in the future.

In addition to the modifications for the Time Attack Spec models, all Hyundai Ioniq 5s at Pike Peak will feature a special wrap and upgraded safety equipment. This includes external speakers capable of producing 120 decibels of sound, adding tones produced through Hyundai’s N Active Sound+ system. The purpose of the engine sound enhancements is to provide better driver feedback, as well as meeting the safety requirement of EVs emitting sound while racing. Apart from the race-prepped models, Hyundai will also campaign two production-spec Ioniq 5 Ns with the goal of achieving a production EV record at Pike Peak. The only changes made to these vehicles are safety-related, including roll cages and necessary gear for competition.

Hyundai’s venture into electric motorsport extends beyond the Pike Peak hill climb, as the company is collaborating with the Gran Turismo franchise on upcoming hill climb action in GT7. This partnership highlights Hyundai’s commitment to investing in the future of motorsport and pushing the boundaries of electric racing.
