Is Mariska Hargitay Believes Benson and Stabler from SVU are Meant to be Together?

Mariska Hargitay, best known for her role as Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU, recently opened up about the potential endgame for her character and Elliot Stabler, played by Christopher Meloni. Despite the onscreen chemistry between the characters, Hargitay revealed that the story is still evolving, and she doesn’t think of them as endgame yet. The actors have been fielding questions about the nature of their relationship for years, with Hargitay recently sharing that there was almost a kiss between them that got cut.

Hargitay expressed that being on SVU is like being in a marathon, and she’s still in the race with a ways to go before the finish line. She emphasized the importance of considering what is best and healthiest for the characters as the story unfolds. The show recently celebrated its 25th season with the return of old characters, including Kelli Giddish as Amanda Rollins. Hargitay expressed her joy at having Giddish back on set and missed working with her.

Season 25 of SVU had its challenges, including Hargitay directing an episode titled “Children of Wolves.” She praised the talented writers of the show and the beautiful partnership and collaboration they share. Hargitay has also teamed up with Purina to support survivors of domestic violence through unveiling the “Courageous Together” Statue by Artist Kristen Visbal. The statue depicts a woman and her dog, connected by a purple leash to symbolize the first step survivors take in leaving an abuser.

Purina’s initiative, the Purple Leash Project, aims to make more domestic violence shelters pet-friendly, as almost 50 percent of survivors delay leaving their abuser due to concerns about their pet’s safety. Hargitay, who founded the Joyful Heart Foundation to raise awareness of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, believes it’s essential to support survivors in every way possible. The actress highlighted the heartbreaking choice survivors face between their safety and their pet’s safety and stressed the importance of supporting them through difficult times.
