Kia America is recalling over 450,000 Telluride vehicles due to a potential fire risk caused by an issue with the front power-seat motor. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall, which affects 2020-2024 Telluride SUVs. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures and other vehicles until the repair is completed to prevent the risk of fire and injury.

According to Kia, there has been one localized underseat fire and six instances of localized melting of a power-seat motor, but no crashes, injuries, or fatalities have occurred as a result of the issue. Dealers will be installing a bracket for the power-seat switchback covers and replacing the seat slide knobs free of charge. Notices will be sent out to affected drivers beginning on July 30, with instructions to visit a Kia dealer for the necessary repairs.

This recall adds to the growing list of recalls in the auto industry, with Kia recalling over 427,000 Telluride vehicles just months prior due to the potential for the cars to move while in park. NHTSA warned that the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft on the vehicles may not be fully engaged, leading to unintended vehicle movement in park if the parking brake is not engaged. Kia’s Customer Car Care Center can be reached at 800-333-4542 for any questions or concerns regarding the recall.

It is crucial for owners of affected Kia Telluride vehicles to follow the recall instructions and have the necessary repairs completed to ensure the safety of themselves and others on the road. By parking the vehicles outside and away from structures until the issue is resolved, the risk of fire and injury can be minimized. The recall repair, which includes installing a bracket for the power-seat switchback covers and replacing seat slide knobs, will be done at no cost to owners.

In light of the recent recalls in the auto industry, it is essential for car manufacturers to prioritize safety and address any potential issues promptly to prevent accidents and injuries. Kia’s proactive approach to recalling vehicles with potential safety hazards demonstrates their commitment to customer safety and satisfaction. Owners of affected vehicles should not delay in taking their cars to a Kia dealer for the necessary repairs outlined in the recall notice to address the front power-seat motor issue and ensure the safety of their vehicles.

By heeding the advice of the NHTSA and Kia, owners of affected Telluride vehicles can take steps to prevent potential fire risks and ensure the safe operation of their SUVs. By following the recall instructions and visiting a Kia dealer for the necessary repairs, drivers can protect themselves and others on the road from the dangers posed by the front power-seat motor issue. It is essential for car manufacturers to be transparent about any safety concerns and take swift action to address them to maintain the trust and confidence of their customers.
