Ratingen – Serious barbecue accident in NRW!

Around 4 p.m. on Pentecost Sunday, the fire brigade went to the Grüner See in Ratingen because liquid grill lighters had caused a deflagration. Two women (37, 18) and an eight-year-old boy were injured, some seriously. A police spokesman for BILD: “All three suffered burns.”

Numerous rescue workers – also from the surrounding towns – were on duty for one and a half hours, caring for the three injured, who came with ambulances to special clinics in the area.

Day trippers poured alcohol into the grill

According to initial findings by the police, the day-trippers had poured alcohol onto the already burning embers in the grill, triggering a strong explosion.

The fire brigade strongly advises against using any kind of liquid grill lighter, as uncontrolled fire spread can always occur here, appeals: “Please always use fixed grill lighters, as these are much safer and easier to use.”
