Stuttgart – Gold prices are still at historic highs. It’s worth selling tooth gold or grandma’s old gold jewelery now. Actually. Because not all gold buyers pay fair prices. BILD did the big gold test in Stuttgart!
Reporter Nelly Kühn (29) offered four gold dealers in the city a bracelet made of 8 carat gold (3.8 grams of fine gold) and a 14-carat ring (2.7 grams of fine gold).
According to experts, the gold of the bracelet is worth 200.41 euros, that of the ring 142.40 euros.
The reputable Degussa Goldhandel calculated the market prices on the marketplace for BILD. But do we really get that from the gold buyers that are on every street corner?

The expert had advised: “Go to a reputable, well-known dealer who has the most modern testing equipment on site and bills transparently.” We tried it anyway…
Show me your gold and I’ll tell you how I’ll rip you off! This was the result of the BILD test among buyers…
► Jeweler at the corner (Feuerbach): 230 euros for both. That’s 33 percent too little! Rip off!
►Dream jeweler (Zuffenhausen): 112 euros for the ring, bracelet 150 euros. 24 percent too little! This dealer also pays unfair prices.
► GoldStar jeweler (Bad Cannstatt): 100 euros for the ring, 155 euros for the band. 26 percent too little! This dealer pays more than a quarter too little.
► Wedding ring smithy (Stuttgart): the big surprise! 151 euros for the ring and 209 euros for the bracelet. That’s 5 percent above the market price!
This trader took her time, checked the gold pieces in the acid bath before weighing them. The other stores tested only had a precision scale.
