Christopher Street Day: Dresden is doing rainbow colors!

Dresden – “It’s My Life” booms 90s icon Dr. Alban from the boxes. The street around the trucks becomes a rainbow dance floor. Thousands of gays, lesbians, queers or just party people marched through Dresden in a colorful parade on Saturday for Christopher Street Day (CSD).

There was already a relaxed atmosphere on the Terrassenufer in the morning: the CSD demonstration for respect for the different life plans started there at noon. People danced, celebrated, laughed and flirted through Dresden for nine kilometers or several hours.

Joy at most on the roadside or at windows. Others preferred to look the other way or “flee” into the side streets. Even in 2023, not every Dresdener will be tolerant.

Equal Opportunities Minister Katja Meier (43, Greens) logically stated at the beginning on the stage that the queer community had also made a lot of progress in Saxony over the past 30 years.

Nevertheless, according to the politician, one is “still a long way away” from achieving the most important goal – a completely open and non-discriminatory society. “People are still being insulted, they experience violence and exclusion.” This and the ignorance must be opposed together.

This Saturday it stayed colorful in Dresden instead of brown. “CSD instead of AfD” was read on a poster. The CSD was held in Dresden for the 30th time. The motto was “100 percent human – no ifs or buts!”.

In Leipzig, the CSD will be celebrated in the week starting July 7th, the demonstration is planned in the trade fair city on July 15th.
