The Corona warning app has been available for three years and has been installed almost 50 million times in Germany. At the beginning of June, the app for contact tracing and for test and vaccination records will now be put into sleep mode. Reason: the relaxed pandemic situation.
The warning function after a positive corona test is activated until the end of April, explains the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) at the request of the German Press Agency (dpa).
In May, the systems would be prepared for “certain” functions to go into sleep mode from June 1st.
Will my vaccination certificates then expire?
No. The Corona warning app will no longer be updated regularly from June. Test results and electronic vaccination certificates are still displayed. You should therefore not delete the app immediately.
In addition, it cannot be ruled out that the pandemic will pick up speed again at some point. If the situation deteriorates, the Corona-Warn-App can be reactivated and adjusted at short notice.

Who developed the Corona warning app?
In addition to the software group SAP and Deutsche Telekom, 25 other companies were involved in the development. The current contracts end on May 31, 2023.
The total costs are around 220 million euros. According to the Ministry of Health, the has been installed more than 48 million times on end devices. Almost nine million people shared positive test results and thus warned other users.
Is the corona pandemic now completely over?
No, Corona is not over yet. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recently reported the number of reported Covid 19 cases within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants at around 40.
But the Saarbrücken pharmacy professor Thorsten Lehr told the dpa that he assumes that the actual seven-day incidence in Germany is currently between 1000 and 2000. The actual numbers explained what you see.
Prof. Lehr: “We still have many infections. They are harmless, but they exist.” According to his forecast, the current wave will peak in April and then weaken.
