FC Bayern: “Took me by surprise” – First Bayern star comments on Nagelsmann-Aus
The Nagelsmann quake continues to have an effect!
The Bayern throw out coach Julian Nagelsmann (35) and get ex-BVB coach Thomas Tuchel (49) as a new coach before the league cracker against Dortmund on April 1st.
A real cracker! In the past few weeks, the Bayern bosses had repeatedly backed Nagelsmann, especially after the sovereign progress in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.
After the Leverkusen bankruptcy (1: 2), sports boss Hasan Salihamidžić had rumbled. He said: “That’s not what Bavaria means. So little drive, mentality, duel, assertiveness – I’ve rarely experienced that.”
Now the eviction. While events were unfolding at the record champions, a Bayern star was on the pitch!
Joao Cancelo (28) kicked against Liechtenstein (4-0) with the Portuguese national team in Lisbon and scored the 1-0 at the start of the European Championship qualifiers.
After the game, the right-back spoke to the Portuguese TV station “Sport TV” and was asked about Nagelsmann’s dismissal. Cancelo obviously knows nothing!
Visibly surprised, he replies: “I didn’t know that. I’m a little surprised. I would like to thank coach Nagelsmann because it was he who wanted me at Bayern, as did the club management.”
And further: “It took me by surprise. I wish him all the luck in the world. When I arrive, I’ll try to fit into the new coach’s concept as much as possible.”
Cancelo was only signed by Bayern in the winter. The Munich team brought him on loan from Manchester City and have a purchase option of 70 million euros for the summer.
Tuchel and Cancelo know each other from the Premier League
New coach Tuchel should know him well from the Premier League. The German coach trained Chelsea from 2021 to 2022 and inflicted one of the most painful defeats of his career on Cancelo.
In 2021, Tuchel won 1-0 with Chelsea in the Champions League final against Man City. Cancelo had to watch from the bench at the time and did not play in the final defeat.
Now the two meet again in Munich …
