Gaffer chaos on the A3: long traffic jams after a serial accident

Mettmann (NRW) – The accident ended relatively mildly, but the consequences of traffic jams for commuters were still devastating. And that even on the oncoming lane – reason: Gaffer!

At 4 p.m. on Wednesday there was a crash on the A3 between Düsseldorf-Hubbelrath and the Hildener Kreuz. A truck driver probably overlooked a car next to him. The truck crashed into the car, throwing it across the lanes. Four following drivers rushed into the scene of the accident.

police, an ambulance and an emergency doctor raced to the casualties, but luckily all the occupants were able to climb out of their wreckage on their own. No one had to go to a clinic as an inpatient.

The large number of cars involved still paralyzed traffic. And not just on the affected side of the A3 in the direction of Cologne. The cars crawled past the scene of the accident on the opposite lane, sometimes at walking pace, completely slowing down the flow of traffic. Miles of backwater up to the Hildener Kreuz!

For the eviction after pileup the A3 had to be closed again and again. In addition, it crashed several times in the backwater, even five hours after the original crash, the more than 15-kilometer-long section of the motorway between Kreuz Ratingen-Ost and the Hildener Kreuz in the direction of Cologne was like a parking lot.

Gradually, vehicles were guided past the scene of the accident in one lane or diverted to other exits.

Even on the A 44, traffic came to a standstill at times due to the backlog and there were rear-end collisions at the stop and go.
