The back and forth is over. As BILD learned exclusively, the fake millionaire Anna Sorokin (31) was released from deportation custody on Saturday night.

Around 5:30 p.m. local time, Sorokin left the detention center in Goshen, Orange County, escorted by two security officers in a white Mercedes Sprinter with tinted windows. The hour and a half drive to New York City took place at high speed.

Here she is expected to receive her electronic ankle bracelets in the federal building in Lower Manhattan. These are among the strict requirements imposed by New York immigration judge Charles Conroy.

He had already approved her release on bail on Thursday. But the final release from prison took almost two days to come.

And these strict requirements are likely to be partly responsible for this:

► In addition to $ 10,000 bail …

► … the German-Russian impostor has to wear an electronic ankle bracelet. It still needs to be adjusted.

► And the strictest: A house arrest is imposed, during which she is not allowed to leave her new residential address. One of her lawyers to BILD: “It’s still better than prison …”

► Another court order: She must NOT post ANYTHING on social media, either herself or about other people. So far, she had mainly advertised works of art and NFTs (digital assets) for sale on Instagram.

The main reason for the delay may also have been that the lawyers were waiting for the announcement of a residential address where Sorokin can be accommodated. It is possible that the otherwise busy 31-year-old – who posed as a German heiress to millions, caused damage of $270,000 through fraud and spent almost four years in prison for it – had difficulties finding someone who would give her shelter.

Anna’s legal team did not want to give more details. But now there seems to be a place to stay. And once Sorokin gets her shackles, she’ll be taken there.

The Big Scam by Anna Sorokin

Born in what was then the Soviet Union, Anna went to high school in Eschweiler (NRW) and came to New York in 2013. She pretended to be a chic heiress to a trust fund worth more than 20 million euros and ripped off friends, banks and hotels.

She sought out a multimillion-dollar loan for a ritzy arts center she planned to set up in Manhattan. Once she flew to a luxury hotel in Morocco with her best friend, Rachel Williams (34), and the cost of the dream trip, $62,000, ended up on Rachel’s credit card.

In 2017, the handcuffs clicked. In a sensational trial in New York in 2019, she was sentenced to four to twelve years in prison. The convict was released in February 2021 due to good behavior.

Six weeks later, however, she was caught by the US deportation agency ICE. The deportation was being prepared: She had come as a vacationer, had exceeded the permitted length of stay – and committed a serious crime. She has now been in detention pending deportation for 17 months.

Now a new chapter in her life is about to begin. But under house arrest.
