Thunderstorms could develop throughout the day across the tri-state area, but damaging winds, large hail and locally heavy downpours previously forecasted have drifted away.

Scattered showers are what the region can expect early Thursday morning and throughout the day along with a cold front that will cool down the previous day’s summer-like conditions. Localized downpours are still possible during the afternoon. The best chance of severe weather remains well north and west of the city.

Temperatures could hit the low-to-mid 70s for spots but the humidity remains for the next 48 hours.

Severe thunderstorm watches, warnings and even a flash flood watch issued ahead of the storms have been canceled (check the latest severe weather alerts for your neighborhood here). However, the unsettled weather pattern should linger into Friday as that cold front stalls over the region.

Saturday will then be the first day in a gorgeous dry stretch with temps in the 80s lasting well into next week. But watch out for strong rip currents.
