Thuringia does away with the old plastic model: the trophy is a small world cup

Finally, Thuringia also has a kind of world cup. At least the newly designed trophy, which will be presented to the winner of the Thuringia Cup final on Saturday (12.15 p.m.), looks very similar to the most important one in club football.

Carl Zeiss Jena or Wacker Nordhausen will not get a cheap option this time. The Thuringian Football Association splashed out and accepted the criticism of the previous model.

TFV Marketing Manager Christin Lenters had the idea. She wanted to break new ground: “It was our intention to present something decent and heavy. You search forever to find something individual that is worthy of a finale.”

The association paid for that too. A specially commissioned artist from Berlin designed the model based on Lenters’ idea and received a nearly four-digit sum for it. Now the variant that shows the goddess of victory Viktoria holding a ball will remain for at least five years.

The process lasted a year. Lenters: “We’ve had a similar trophy in the meantime, which we really liked. Finding something that appeals to everyone is almost impossible.”

For years, the association awarded the light plastic model, which can also be ordered on the Internet. “One of the basic ideas was to make the trophy look like the World Cup. The goddess is not fixed and finally a woman comes into play.”
