Now all executive chairs at VfL Wolfsburg have been occupied.

Tuesday was Jörg Schmadtke’s (58) last day at work as sporting director, Wednesday Marcel Schäfer (38) officially took over this role. On Friday morning, Sebastian Schindzielorz (44), Schäfer’s successor to the position of sports director, was presented to Lower Saxony.

Schindzielorz “can’t wait”

“An era is over, Jörg Schmadtke has gone into well-deserved retirement,” says Frank Witter (63). Schmadtke will be seen off in the VW Arena on Sunday before kick-off against FC Bayern.

“The return to Wolfsburg feels good. I can’t wait to get started here,” said Schindzielorz, who most recently worked as managing director at VfL Bochum.

From 2008 to 2013 he was mainly used in the second team for Wolfsburg, but was also part of the squad together with Schäfer that won the German championship title in 2009.

Together, the two quickly make it clear how the collaboration should work. Schäfer: “I’m a team player, that’s how Sebastian sees himself.” Schindzielorz adds: “It’s important that you act on the same line in terms of content.”

Schindzielorz will sit on the Wölfe bench for the first time on Sunday, Schäfer will – like Schmadtke before him – sit in the stands in the future.
