Padma Lakshmi Reveals Her Fitness and Diet Philosophy: ‘I Believe in Moderation’



Padma Lakshmi, the former host of Top Chef, believes in maintaining balance and being kind to her body when it comes to staying in shape. She avoids depriving herself or overindulging and focuses on comparing herself to her own progress rather than others. The 53-year-old star enjoys various types of exercise, including weight lifting, boxing, jump rope, and ab workouts, prioritizing fitness as often as possible.

During her time on Top Chef, Lakshmi revealed that she consumed a significant amount of calories each day, resulting in weight gain of 10 to 17 pounds per season. To shed the extra weight before the Emmy Awards, she followed a strict diet that excluded meat, wheat, cheese, fried foods, sweets, and alcohol, in addition to working out for two hours a day. However, she realized how her dieting habits were impacting her daughter, Krishna, leading her to shift her focus away from weight loss.

Instead of prioritizing her weight for events like the Emmys, Lakshmi decided to prioritize her daughter’s well-being and self-esteem. She expressed that it is more important to ensure Krishna does not measure her worth by her dress size, emphasizing the importance of body positivity and self-acceptance. The model celebrated Krishna’s 14th birthday in February, expressing her pride and love for her daughter in a heartfelt Instagram post.

Lakshmi’s decision to leave Top Chef after 17 years was influenced by her desire for a personal life and more time with her daughter. She acknowledged the fleeting nature of her daughter’s teenage years and wanted to be present for significant milestones in Krishna’s life. Additionally, the star admitted that her busy work schedule had hindered her ability to pursue romantic relationships, prompting her to reevaluate her priorities and make space for dating.

The former Top Chef host’s departure from the show allowed her to focus on her personal life, including spending more time with Krishna and potentially exploring new relationships. Lakshmi expressed the importance of finding a balance between work, personal relationships, and self-care, reflecting on the positive impact of prioritizing her daughter’s well-being. As she navigates this new chapter in her life, the model remains committed to self-acceptance and making decisions that align with her values and goals.
