Sources say investigators at Gilgo Beach have connected another victim to the suspected serial killer Rex Heuermann

Fox News Digital has reported that investigators in Long Island, New York, have linked a fifth alleged victim to suspected serial killer Rex Heuermann, who was accused last year of murdering four women and dumping their bodies along a remote highway more than a decade ago. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has not commented on the case but indicated that Heuermann is due back in court for a hearing soon. Sources suggest that the suspected serial killer has been indicted on unspecified charges related to new developments in the investigation.

In July 2023, Heuermann was arrested outside his Manhattan architecture firm, leading to a thorough search of his home in Massapequa Park, located near where the bodies of the four victims were found in 2010. These victims, known as the Gilgo Four, include Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes. Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges in connection with these deaths and is currently being held without bail at the Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead, New York.

The investigation into the Gilgo Beach murders has uncovered a total of 11 sets of remains distributed across various locations along Ocean Parkway. Two additional victims, Jessica Taylor and Valerie Mack, were dismembered and discovered in Manorville in 2000 and 2003. Parallel searches in Manorville have likely turned up DNA evidence that authorities aim to compare to findings at Heuermann’s residence. Heuermann’s association with these additional victims and locations suggests a wider scope to the case that is still under investigation.

Shannan Gilbert’s disappearance in 2010 served as a catalyst for the discovery of the Gilgo Beach remains. She placed a frantic 911 call before vanishing, raising suspicions of foul play. However, police announced in 2020 that they believed her death was accidental, a conclusion disputed by her family’s attorney. Dr. Michael Baden, a renowned forensic pathologist, conducted an autopsy on Gilbert’s remains and found evidence suggestive of homicidal strangulation, challenging the police’s official ruling on her death. The conflicting accounts and evidence add layers to the complexity of the case.

The Gilgo Beach serial killings have baffled investigators for years, with additional victims and locations being tied to the suspected serial killer, Rex Heuermann. The discovery of new evidence, including DNA matches and forensic findings, has expanded the case beyond the initial four victims. Heuermann’s trial is pending, and the full extent of his involvement in these crimes remains to be determined. As the investigation continues, the families of the victims seek closure and justice for their loved ones who fell victim to these heinous acts.

In light of the recent developments in the Gilgo Beach case, authorities continue to pursue leads and gather evidence to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice. The public’s attention and support are critical in ensuring that those responsible for these horrific crimes are held accountable.
