Arsenal trail Man Utd in battle to sign striker dubbed ‘next Erling Haaland’

MANCHESTER UNITED are leading the chase to sign Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund.

The young Danish striker – dubbed the next Erling Haaland – has six goals in his last three outings and is attracting interest from across Europe.

The self-confessed United supporter scored for Atalanta before the international break.

He now leads the Euro 2024 qualifying charts after a hat trick against Finland on matchday one before scoring both goals in the shock 3-2 defeat at Kazakhstan.

Arsenal were understood to be leading the hunt for his signature this summer, but bookmakers Ladbrokes make United 3/1 to pip them to it.

Hojlund has four years left on his Atalanta deal and Erik ten Hag’s men will be in the market for a striker in the summer again.

Napoli were understood to be lining him up as a potential Victor Osimhen replacement before he admitted to being a Red Devils fan.

Speaking earlier this year, he revealed: “Now that you ask, I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan.

“So personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me, but of course that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point.”

The Gunners are still firmly in contention and will have the lure of potential Premier League winners and Champions League football this year.

They’re just behind Man Utd in the betting at 7/2, just ahead of Chelsea who are 9/2 to splash out again.

Italian rivals Milan could prise the Atalanta forward away and are 6/1 to sign him, with European powerhouses Real Madrid and Bayern Munich next at 8s – the same price as PSG.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Rasmus Hojlund will seemingly have his pick of some of the biggest clubs in world football soon, but the odds suggest he’ll opt for a Premier League move, with his favourite team, United, currently leading the race for his signature.”
