Horse racing hits Netflix as brand new four-part show to focus on Frankie Dettori’s final year and Kentucky Derby
HORSE RACING is hitting Netflix with a brand new four-part series to document the run-up to the Kentucky Derby in Frankie Dettori’s final year.
Filming is set to start next month and will take in five key trials for America’s most famous race.
Bloodhorse report that if the content is juicy enough it could extended to take in the final two legs of the Triple Crown.
And it could conclude with November’s Breeders’ Cup, where legendary jockey, Frankie, 52, will have his final race.
The team behind Netflix’s smash hit F1 series Drive To Survive are believed to be calling the shots on the new racing show, which could be called Ride To Survive.
They were reported to have held talks with Sky Sports executives, owners and trainers at the Breeders’ Cup last year.
Bloodhorse say filming at Joseph O’Brien’s yard in Ireland has also taken place.
Although when that was done Netflix had not yet agreed to commission the new series.

Should the cameras remain in the US then they will surely focus mostly on Frankie’s final farewell.
The world’s most famous jockey confirmed late last year that this would be his last season racing.
He is currently banging in winners in Santa Anita, where he has been riding for Bob Baffert – the trainer who shares the record for the most Kentucky Derby victories.
The new Netflix show would take in next month’s Louisiana Derby, April’s Florida Derby, Blue Grass Stakes, Wood Memorial Stakes and Santa Anita Derby before May’s Kentucky Derby.
It is unclear how long Dettori will remain in the States, with the British Flat season really kicking off around May.
Dettori said: “This year will be my final professional year as a jockey.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while and it feels an appropriate day to tell the racing world it’s going to be my final year.”
