ROY KEANE blasted England for a “terrible performance” against USA in Friday night’s World Cup stalemate.

And the Manchester United legend was left scratching his head as to why Phil Foden didn’t come on at any point in the game.

Keane was left baffled as to why Phil Foden didn't play

Foden, 22, was an unused sub in the drab 0-0 draw.

Instead boss Gareth Southgate chose to bring Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson off the bench.

But Keane, 51, was baffled by the decision not to sub on Manchester City ace Foden.

He said on ITV: “We were surprised watching it, Gareth will have his reasons he sees them more than anybody but we’re stood watching the game expecting Foden to come on.

“The subs that did come on, didn’t have an impact, they done well the other day but they looked leggy, short of ideas, from set-pieces, they didn’t look like a goal in their locker.

“A terrible performance.”

Foden has been in red-hot form for City this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 20 outings.

And Gary Neville was also disheartened not to see Foden brought off the bench to spark some life into the dreary affair.

He said: “I was disappointed not to see Foden, for me that talent is huge.”

After the game, Southgate explained his decision not to sub on the City starlet.

The gaffer said: “I thought it was the right thing to keep the team from the start then the wide players we went with Jack [Grealish] and Marcus [Rashford] ahead of Phil [Foden] for the changes.”

Despite the result, England are still top of Group B and well placed to qualify for the knockouts.

The Three Lions take on Wales in their final group game on Tuesday.

But Southgate’s side are facing a nightmare round of 16 tie if they fail to go through as group winners.
