The 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S Models Now Produce Over 1,000 Horsepower

Rivian has recently announced some significant upgrades to its R1T pickup and R1S SUV models. While the visual changes may be subtle, there are some major updates under the hood. The quad-motor variant now boasts a power boost from 835 hp to 1,025 hp, making it one of the most powerful electric vehicles on the market. The tri-motor powertrain option also offers a formidable 850 hp and 1,013 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the power upgrades, the batteries have been revised to offer improved range and efficiency. The new Max pack now provides a range of up to 420 miles, thanks in part to a new heat-pump design.

The electrical architecture of the R1 models has been updated to reduce wiring and the number of ECUs used, streamlining the overall design. The suspension on the R1S has been tweaked to provide a more comfortable ride, addressing previous criticisms of its stiffness. New wheel designs and tires have been added to both models, including high-performance Michelin tires for the quad-motor variants. The R1S and R1T now come standard with Rivian’s new “Autonomy” platform, which includes enhanced driver-assist technology such as 11 cameras and five radars. An optional Rivian Autonomy Platform+ will add automatic lane change functionality through a software update in the future.

Despite all the new features, the base price for the R1T remains unchanged at $69,900, while the R1S has seen a slight increase to $75,900. Both models are eligible for a $3,750 tax credit for new EV purchases, as they fall under the $80,000 threshold. The new tri-motor models start at $99,900 for the R1T and $105,900 for the R1S, which includes the larger Max battery pack as standard. Pricing for the quad-motor variant has not yet been released. Deliveries for the updated R1S are set to begin soon, with a date for the R1T to be announced.

In conclusion, Rivian has made some impressive upgrades to the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, offering increased power, range, and driver-assist technology. These enhancements, along with the refined suspension and updated design elements, make the Rivian models even more appealing to EV enthusiasts. With competitive pricing and tax incentives available, the updated R1T and R1S are sure to attract attention in the electric vehicle market. Keep an eye out for deliveries of the new models and look forward to the potential release of the rumored R1X in the future.
