Porsche has recently announced a major update for the 911 for the 2025 model year, which includes a new hybrid system for the GTS trim – a first for the iconic nameplate. While a hybrid 911 is certainly exciting, enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new GT2 RS for the 992 platform. Expected to be a turbocharged powerhouse, similar to the GT2 trim from the previous generation, this new model has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring. The test mule, while visually resembling the current GT3 RS, emits a distinct exhaust note that hints at its turbocharged nature.

The sound of the test mule’s exhaust indicates a departure from the traditional naturally aspirated flat-six engine found in the current GT3 RS. Instead, the deeper, more guttural tone bears a striking resemblance to the last-generation GT2 RS. It is not uncommon for Porsche to use the body of an existing model for testing purposes, as was the case with the last-generation GT2 RS utilizing the GT3’s body with some minor modifications to the front and rear fascias. With a history of setting records at the Nurburgring, the upcoming GT2 RS is expected to push the boundaries even further with its advanced aerodynamics and suspension.

The last-generation GT2 RS made waves in 2017 by claiming the title of the fastest rear-drive production car at the Nurburgring, thanks to its 700-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six engine and aggressive aerodynamics. In 2021, the GT2 RS solidified its dominance by setting the overall record with an upgrade kit from Manthey Performance. With the advancements in aerodynamics and suspension technology on the 992 platform, the upcoming GT2 RS is poised to be even more formidable on the track.

Enthusiasts and automotive experts are eagerly anticipating the debut of the new GT2 RS, as it represents the pinnacle of performance for the 911 lineup. The combination of turbocharged power, advanced aerodynamics, and precision engineering is expected to deliver a driving experience unlike any other. With Porsche’s track record of pushing boundaries and breaking records, the upcoming GT2 RS is poised to continue the legacy of its predecessors and solidify its position as a true powerhouse in the world of high-performance sports cars. Stay tuned for more updates as Porsche continues to develop and test the next-generation GT2 RS at famous race tracks around the world.
