Chris Bee, a seasoned tech executive who has previously worked at top companies such as Lessen, Zillow, and Uber, has recently joined AI email startup Superhuman as its chief technology officer. In a LinkedIn post, Bee expressed his excitement about the opportunity to help build a product that is loved by many and that helps people reclaim their time on a daily basis. Superhuman, based in San Francisco, raised $75 million in 2021 to further develop its email app, which is designed to simplify the process of sending, receiving, and composing emails across platforms like Gmail and Outlook. With a focus on enterprise clients, Superhuman is aiming to revolutionize the way people interact with their email.
Bee, who is currently located in Seattle, brings a wealth of experience to his new role at Superhuman. He has previously held positions as a senior director at Zillow Group and a senior engineering manager at Uber, demonstrating his strong background in technology and leadership. This move comes amidst other key personnel changes in the Pacific Northwest tech industry, including Tammy Perkins, a seasoned HR executive based in Seattle, joining HR software provider ProService as chief people officer after having held similar roles at HAVI and Amazon.
Another notable change in the tech industry was the resignation of Jonathan Klein, co-founder and former CEO of Seattle-based Getty Images, from the company’s board. Klein, who played a key role in launching Getty Images in 1995, stepped down as CEO in 2015 and as board chair in 2018. Similarly, Olly Downs, a well-known tech leader in Seattle, was appointed as chief technology and AI officer at Curinos after having held executive positions at BARK, Zulily, and Zillow Group, as well as founding and leading his own marketing startup, Amplero.
Larry Hryb, who spent over two decades at Microsoft and became a prominent figure in the Xbox community, recently joined Unity as director of community. In a LinkedIn post, Hryb expressed his enthusiasm for Unity’s mission of empowering creators worldwide through games, apps, and experiences, aligning with his passion for innovation and community building. Known as Major Nelson, Hryb was a key ambassador for Xbox and hosted the Official Xbox Podcast before stepping away from Microsoft last year.
In addition to these moves, Ryan Powell joined Seattle logistics startup Pipe17 as chief revenue officer, bringing his experience from companies like Ryder System, Whiplash, and Easyship to his new role. Chris Green was appointed as the first president of the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Association, after serving as assistant director for the Office of Economic Development and Competitiveness at the Washington state Department of Commerce. Juan Barraza was named as the new executive director of Portland-based nonprofit Latino Founders, while Andrew Coté from Brinc Drones joined the Business Executives for National Security in Washington D.C., and Karina Martija-Harris transitioned from Washington Maritime Blue to the National Security Innovation Network. These changes reflect the dynamic nature of the tech industry in the Pacific Northwest region.
