Mother of three reveals secrets to achieving record-breaking success in running
Helen Ryvar, a single mother-of-three, and owner of a cleaning business, has broken the world record for consecutive half-marathons with an impressive 743 completed. She credits her success to her nightly routine which involves checking the weather forecast, laying out her running clothes, and charging her cell phone and flashlight in preparation for her 4 a.m. start time. Despite facing minimal injuries, Ryvar ensures she stays hydrated, gets enough rest, and takes magnesium salt baths regularly to aid her recovery.
Ryvar’s running journey began in 2020, just before the UK went into lockdown due to the pandemic. Running has become a way for her to cope with the challenges life has thrown her way, including the loss of her ex-husband. While she describes herself as a “mediocre runner” and doesn’t focus on speed or fancy running gear, Ryvar emphasizes the importance of building a strong mindset and listening to her body. By running at the same time every day and incorporating exercise into her daily routine, she has maintained a consistent streak of half-marathons.
Staying active and consistent with her routine has been key to Ryvar’s success. She advises others to prioritize hydration, nutrition, and rest, as well as incorporating magnesium salt baths into their recovery routine. By understanding their body’s needs and staying accountable through group activities or goal-setting, individuals can build confidence and push themselves to achieve more. Ryvar’s goal is to reach 1,000 consecutive half-marathons, a milestone she hopes to achieve by January 24, 2025.
Despite the physical challenges of running a half-marathon every day, Ryvar remains committed to raising money for charity and inspiring others through her journey. Her dedication has taken her to various locations worldwide, and she continues to receive support from her community. Ryvar finds immense satisfaction in her running achievements and the impact she has on others’ lives through her fundraising efforts for Cancer Research UK and Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham.
