Reus considers Man Utd £200k-a-week transfer snub for new Borussia Dortmund deal

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly suffered a blow in their pursuit of Marco Reus after it was revealed he remains in contract talks with Borussia Dortmund.

Reus, 33, is out of contract with the Bundesliga outfit at the end of the season.

Erik ten Hag has reportedly been keen to add the German to his squad on a free transfer, much like he did with Christian Eriksen last summer.

Indeed, United are said to have offered a £200,000-a-week deal to lure Reus to Old Trafford.

This speculation intensified as his agents, Dirk Hebel and Darren Freeman, watched the Manchester derby.

However, a report from 90min indicates Dortmund are among the parties involved in a dialogue with the representatives.

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed talks were ongoing between the two parties.

He told Sky Germany earlier this week: “We are in trusting talks with the player and the agent.

“There is nothing more to say about it at the moment. We don’t let ourselves be carried away either. We know each other very, very well and have a good relationship of trust.”

Kehl then took a swipe at the fiasco earlier in the season which saw dirty laundry aired in public during recent negotiations with youngster Youssoufa Moukoko.

He added: “We don’t need all of these media topics that we had around Moukoko for every personal detail.”

Talks were held with Manchester City before Hebel headed to London, with the Cityzens put off by his client’s age.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr are another team Reus has been linked with in the summer.

RB Leipzig also had their name in the hat, but this was played down by the club’s managing director Max Eberl, who said: “There’s nothing to it [the transfer rumour].

“We’re quietly thinking about summer. You have to think about free transfer players. Nothing more and nothing less is there.”

The Red Devils’ position on a move could be boosted by using BVB’s interest in a loan for Anthony Elanga to their advantage.

In the meantime, United face Reading in the FA Cup this evening, with the likes of Facundo Pellistri, Alejandro Garnacho and Harry Maguire in line to feature.
