FORMER UFC middleweight champ Robert Whittaker has urged Conor McGregor to forget about an immediate showdown with Dustin Poirier upon his return.

The Notorious, 33, is eyeing a fourth clash with the former interim lightweight champion once he’s recovered from the horrific broken leg he suffered in their trilogy fight.

And The Notorious is hellbent on exacting revenge on his lightweight rival
But former middleweight champ Whittaker isn't eager to see the pair run it back for a fourth time

But ex-middleweight king Whittaker believes the pair’s rivalry will eventually have to come to an end.

During an appearance on Fox Sports, the Aussie said: “You’ve got to ask, what are we going to see? Conor and Poirier 7, 8, 9?

“Are they only going to fight each other for the rest of their careers?

“Come on mate, give it a rest.”

McGregor will be keeping an eye on Poirier’s lightweight title fight with defending champ Charles Oliveira this weekend, which will headline UFC 269 in Las Vegas.

And he’s confident of walking straight into a title fight when he’s cleared to resume competition.

In August, he said: “I am billi walking straight to a title shot on my return and it sickens the bums of this business.

“Which is the real reason these constant disrespectful comments come my way. God bless them.”

McGregor has made great strides in his recovery from the nasty injury he sustained in his Sin City series decider with Poirier.

During a recent impromptu Twitter Q&A, he revealed to fans: “The fibula is fully healed.

“The medial side of the tibia is developing a nice callous also.

“It is just patience now for it to form down through the bone to the lateral side of the tibia where the larger break occurred.

“It’s getting there. Patience will win this race for me!”

And The Notorious expects to resume full sparring by April at the latest.

He tweeted: “I will be full mixed martial arts sparring by April. Easily!

“By then a return will be imminent. But I must be patient. I will beat this!”
