The inaugural Porsche 911 hybrid boasts 532 horsepower and a price tag of $166,895.
Porsche is making a big move by introducing a hybrid version of the updated 992-chassis 911 for 2025. The new Carrera GTS model will feature a rear-mounted flat-six engine paired with an electric motor and an electric turbocharger, boosting power to 532 horsepower and 449 pound-feet of torque. This unique hybrid system allows Porsche to replace the twin turbo setup with a single electric turbocharger, resulting in faster response times and minimal turbo lag. The Carrera GTS will also include a traction motor and a small battery to enhance performance across the rev range while maintaining the ideal air-fuel ratio.
The updated Carrera GTS will weigh 103 pounds more than its predecessor due to added standard equipment, including rear-wheel steering. However, the increased power output will more than compensate for the additional weight, making it the first 911 Carrera model capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds. In addition to the T-Hybrid system, the Carrera GTS will feature new active aerodynamic flaps at the front to improve cooling without increasing drag. The model will also receive styling tweaks, new wheel options, and wider rear tires for enhanced performance.
The base Carrera model for 2025 will incorporate the turbos and intercoolers from previous GTS and Turbo models, resulting in a nine-hp increase in power. The model will receive the same facelift updates as the Carrera GTS, but with different front and rear fascias and no active cooling flaps. Pricing for the 2025 models will see significant increases across the board, with the base Carrera starting at $122,095 and the GTS at $166,895. These facelifted 992 Carreras are expected to arrive at dealerships in the fall, with the Carrera GTS scheduled for later in the year. Porsche plans to expand the 992.2 range with more models, including hybrid options, in the future.
Overall, the introduction of a hybrid version of the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS for 2025 marks a significant milestone for the iconic sports car. The innovative T-Hybrid system combines traditional and electric power sources to enhance performance and efficiency, setting a new standard for the 911 lineup. With added power, updated technology, and improved aerodynamics, the 2025 Carrera GTS promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience for Porsche enthusiasts. As the automotive industry continues to embrace electrification, Porsche’s forward-thinking approach ensures that the 911 remains at the forefront of innovation and performance.
