A man was shot and killed by officers in Coney Island after he had been threatening to shoot a woman, according to police and law enforcement sources.

The incident occurred after 10 p.m. at West 37th Street and Neptune Avenue in the Brooklyn neighborhood, police said. A man was armed with a gun and threatening to shoot a woman, law enforcement sources told NBC New York.

Officers arrived at the scene and three shots were fired, sources said. It was not clear how many times the suspect, who has not yet been identified, was struck, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three officers were taken to nearby hospitals for tinnitus, police said.

No further information was immediately available. An investigation is ongoing.
